Dates still lost. But assume a few days after the previous ingame session notes. Typographical and grammar errors intentional.
Found a scout in the local woods to train. Decent fellow.
Dismas has formed a work party of local boys to fill in the pit trap and laid out a plan for the capture and liberation of the tower. We’ve collected silvered resources and are set to begin into the Haunted Tower and the village from whatever has spawned its myths.
Next day:
Today’s delve revealed the truth of the haunting, and the evil within. The top floors of the tower were not very dangerous, a few green slimes that dropped from murder holes above, but a strange set of dice discovered. Dismas’ sword warned us away. On the roof, we destroyed a cherub statue. It struck us too much like a creature of legend we heard, and what we’ve seen makes us too cautious to risk letting it be. I watched it as if fell, and landed surprisingly neat in the pit below.
We then staked doors shut or open, and went into the basement level. We found a well for local water, and a undead watchman, who we slew quickly. Poor fellow. We capped the well, and used the corpse to barricade. Can never be too cautious with these things. We then began to search the rooms for more. Some of the henchies searched a pile of junk, cautiously discovering a nest of rot grubs, which we burned out. Bastards. Wasn’t long before the half-ears discovered a secret passage in one of the walls. Dismas and I searched for traps… and then Dismas went to listen at the latch. A ugly creature jumped from a near invisible gap to his head, and as I leapt for him, he swung his sword up and slapped it out of the air, where it splatted against the ground, and stopped moving.
On the other side, a hallway ran off to a splintered banded oak door. Never have I seen something so shattered. Kobold bones were scattered on the far side, in a room that had two secrets. One was newer, much newer. A strange skeleton hid in it, but it did not move, with a mold covering it. The books discussed selling it, as well as the necessity to cat a log it. Whatever that means. We turned out attentions to the other secret door, after making good to check it.
Beyond the door the dwarf said the black moss was edible to animals, though I couldn’t see how. But possibilities came to me as I considered this fuzzy black space. We pushed into the space, and then I crouched and set arrows at the mouth of larger space. The rest of the party filed in after me, and Molly took up position behind. This turned out to be wise.
Two … the dwarf and Brother Cuy would later claim it was an Acursed. Undead, shaded black, with worms for eyes, they emerged from teh fuzzy black and startled me with the hate and fear they inspired. Molly screamed and ran back down the tunnel, and up and out. And wasn’t the only one, Soren and some of the other henchmen recoiled in horror, running and tripping further into the cavern. Somewhere I found a reserve, and reached for two of the silvered arrows and loosed them at the first of the two, but they sailed off into the darkness. I missed, but I was quick enough to draw my sword when my bow proved insufficient.
In the hazy blackness, the fighting was fierce, and horrific. I do not think I shall forget the horrors of what I’ve seen for many nights. But I shall sooth and slay the night demons with being one of the many men who put such things back in the graves they came. Things that would not die when killed. Fire saw to that which hadn’t admitted defeat.
We had emerged fairly unscathed, but where I had been struck, even with the protection of leather, a blackness was apparent. The religious said they could not treat the malaise and we decided to visit the priest when we returned in the evening.
Dismas raised a shout as we caught out breaths, finding a hidden ledge in the wall of the cavern. He and I carefully pushed up, carefully looking around, and came upon another door. Behind that door we found a strange device. A gross of buttons covered it, and a label none of us had trouble reading: “EMERGENCY CONTROLS STATION #6 ((standby))”. The party considered it deliberately, and backed away from it cautiously. It asked for strange things, and the scholars conferred quietly, both excitedly and worried. I asked later, and they thought it important, but it was unclear what. There weren’t many references to it. Strangeness afoot.
Molly and the mercenaries joined us, the latter briefly, the former sheepishly. I should not be harsh, for the brave Soren broke too at these horrible creatures until he marshelled his courage. But it was a tenuous thing for a moment.
We tossed a rope to slide down the hole, which had rungs of brass in the side, and we descended into the cavern below. Bill began to sweat and pray more fervently than in the heat of battle, but the dwarf reported no evil in the area, which cooled him some. I for one settled into a wary stance.
There had been demons of some kind down here, and men too. Men who had tabards of that strange black tower we fought two weeks prior. Both sides appeared to have perished, which was of little consolation, given death is not always so. We crept cautiously forward, scanning the room and checking the corners. The treasure did not dull our wariness, the past danger informed fore. But nothing jumped at us. We sifted briefly with sole and butt through the wreckage, and hauled up bag after bag of equipment, some quite unusual. We would assess all later, to see what we had found, in private as best possible. There was some strange finds too at a glance, but caution ruled us. We had left the tower only a few hours after noon.
NExt day:
We have received our healing from the local priest. Dismas as I write is going through the items, looking from one to the other. A few were quite special, and magical. The pair of scholars yelped with great joy over some fo their magic scrolls, which when they explained, are magics of great, great power.
One of the weapons is intelligent. A long sword. Would be nice. (Went to Bill)
Some bracers of a superior quality. (later note: went to me.)
The other weapon/spear/ is also intelligent, and a legendary one. Stories said the Amazon used this.
Mix variety of potions.
A strange card. Not magical in and of itself, but decay hasn’t taken it.
A magic shield. Went to the dwarf.
Magic ring of action. Went to Dismas.
Ring of Warmth. Figures we can use it for cold swims.
Discussion is of selling the spear. Not too valuable to us, less we trust it to Molly. We have not solicited her opinion. She did run, magic or no. And it’s a fair bit to trust to one. We also need gold. I’m well, but the others have shared some looks.
